Synology DiskStation DS225+ 2-Bay NAS, Intel Celeron J4125, 2 GB RAM, 2.5GbE (DS225+)

The Synology DiskStation DS225+ is a two-bay NAS for a home office or a small team that needs shared storage, scheduled backups and remote access managed through Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM). A 2.5GbE port next to the standard 1GbE port gives faster transfers on a 2.5-gigabit network.

The unit is built around an Intel Celeron J4125 — four 64-bit cores at 2.0 GHz with turbo up to 2.7 GHz and hardware encryption — with 2 GB of DDR4 memory installed; the single memory slot can be upgraded to 6 GB in total (2 GB + 4 GB with the D4NS01-4G module). Two hot-swappable bays accept 3.5-inch SATA hard drives or 2.5-inch SATA SSDs, giving up to 40 TB of raw capacity with 20 TB drives; a single volume can reach 108 TB.

Ports are one RJ-45 1GbE, one RJ-45 2.5GbE and two USB 3.2 Gen 1, one of them tied to the USB Copy button on the front panel. Noise is 19.6 dB(A) with one 92 mm fan; power draw is about 17 W in use and 6 W with drives hibernated from a 60 W adapter. The chassis measures 165 × 108 × 232.2 mm and weighs 1.3 kg. In the box: the DiskStation, accessory pack, power adapter and cord, and two RJ-45 cables. Synology provides a 3-year hardware warranty, extendable to 5 years with EW201 or Extended Warranty Plus. Drives are sold separately.
