The Synology DiskStation DS223j is a compact two-bay NAS for a home or a small office: it keeps photos, documents and backups in one place and shares them with every computer, phone and TV in the network. It runs Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM), which handles user accounts, shared folders, backups and mobile access through a web browser.

Inside is a 64-bit Realtek RTD1619B processor with four cores at 1.7 GHz and hardware encryption, paired with 1 GB of DDR4 memory. The two drive bays take 3.5-inch SATA hard drives or 2.5-inch SATA SSDs (drives are installed inside the chassis, no hot-swap) and a single volume can grow to 108 TB.

Connectivity is one RJ-45 1GbE port and two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports for external drives. The unit is quiet at 18.2 dB(A) with a single 92 mm fan, draws about 16 W in use and 4 W with drives hibernated, and measures 165 × 100 × 225.5 mm at 0.88 kg. The box contains the DiskStation, the accessory pack, a 60 W power adapter and cord, one RJ-45 cable and a quick installation guide. Synology provides a 2-year hardware warranty, extendable to 4 years with Extended Warranty Plus. Drives are sold separately.
