Synology DiskStation DS425+ 4-Bay NAS, Intel Celeron J4125, 2 GB RAM, 2.5GbE, 2 × M.2 NVMe (DS425+)

The Synology DiskStation DS425+ is a four-bay desktop NAS for a small business or a demanding home: file sharing, backups of computers and virtual machines, surveillance and multimedia are managed from Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM). A 2.5GbE port complements the 1GbE port for faster transfers on a 2.5-gigabit switch.

It runs on an Intel Celeron J4125 with four 64-bit cores at 2.0 GHz (turbo 2.7 GHz) and hardware encryption, and comes with 2 GB of DDR4 memory in a single slot that can be expanded to 6 GB (2 GB + 4 GB with the D4NS01-4G module). Four hot-swappable bays take 3.5-inch SATA hard drives or 2.5-inch SATA SSDs — up to 80 TB of raw capacity with 20 TB drives — and two M.2 2280 NVMe slots can hold SSDs for cache or as a separate storage pool. A single volume can reach 108 TB.

Rear connectivity is one RJ-45 1GbE, one RJ-45 2.5GbE and two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports. Two 92 mm fans keep the noise level at 21.6 dB(A); the unit draws about 28 W in use and 6 W with drives hibernated from a 90 W adapter. It measures 166 × 199 × 223 mm and weighs 2.18 kg. The box contains the DiskStation, accessory pack, power adapter and cord, and two RJ-45 cables. Synology provides a 3-year hardware warranty, extendable to 5 years with EW201 or Extended Warranty Plus. Drives are sold separately.
